SUMMARY:SPIIC+ LECTURE CONCERT NO.16
DESCRIPTION:Barry Guy (UK) – Kontrabaß\nMaya Homburger (CH) – Barockgeige\nFrom Barock to Contemporary Music to Improvisation \nIm Workshop-Konzert und im Gespräch mit Vlatko Kučan.

SUMMARY:Dawn of Humanity
DESCRIPTION:The Non-Piano/Toy Piano Weekend takes a time-traveling leap back to the beginnings of Humankind and explores its wonders\, namely how our species developed from being able to do  only the most basic functions in an untouched world  to accomplishing step by step the feats that set them apart from all other species. \nWith our first evening starting at an unspecified time approximately 300\,000 years ago with the first appearance of the human species\,  our second evening jumps to focus on Queen Elisabeth I.  and her reign – this fascinating woman being a symbol of the Homosapien drive for aspects such as power\, war\, the building of empires\, intellect\, religion\, intrigue\, culture\, excess and  fashion.  \nSome of the festival highlights are the spectacular scenic ‘ Evening Harmony’  by Frédéric Verriéres for midi-piano\, extended techniques and electronics which with a team of 4 pianists experiences the beauty of a richly laden evening based upon  Debussy’s ‘Les sons et les parfums tournent dans l’air du soir’ . We are happy to present three new works inspired by  Queen Elizabeth I. including the project of   French/American puppeteer\, musician and costume designer Lucie Cunningham and her giant costume ‘stage’  of Queen Elizabeth I.  \n  \nThe more information\, please click to program below: \n2021: Homosapiens & Queen Elizabeth 1.

SUMMARY:here&there concert - networked multimedia performance
DESCRIPTION:HERE&THERE\n\n\nNETWORKED MULTIMEDIA PERFORMANCE – MUSIC\, DANCE\, LIGHT\, VIDEO\nSun\, 28.07.2021\, 7 PM\, GOETHE-INSTITUT HANOI\nSun\, 28.07.2021\, 01 PM Hochschule fuer Musik und Theater\, Hamburg\nA collaborative work created by artists based in Germany and Vietnam. It is a multi-layered work tackling the topics of long-distance relationships and the role technology has in them. Movement\, video\, lights and sound are all equal partners merging and weaving together to create metaphors for these questions.\n \nThe ongoing Corona pandemic has affected us all and has changed the world in innumerable ways. The necessities of nowadays have given birth to artistic projects and collaborations that would otherwise perhaps never been realized. It has\, of course\, also laid waste to a great many others which would\, under normal circumstances\, thrived. The relationships to have been affected – there is more tension and anxiety\, and often we wonder: will I be able to see my loved ones tomorrow? The strains stem\, in some cases\, from not being able to spend any time together at all or\, in other cases\, from being forced to spend all the time together\, crammed in one-room apartments or such. We care about one another\, but the tension is undeniable… What ways are there for us to overcome that? And how will we be able to reconnect\, once the pandemic is over? Even before the pandemic\, the four authors of this project have had experiences with living in different countries\, far away from their friends\, families and partners. These shared experiences have inspired them to think and discuss what “connection” really means for us\, were we ever really “disconnected”\, what is there to “reconnect” with and how…\n \nThe pandemic is acting\, in a sense\, as a big equalizer\, putting our relationships\, geographically distant and near\, on the same level – the level of pixels and latency. We wonder\, what is the significance of cultural differences that have us feel closer to our friends\, far away in our motherlands\, then\, sometimes\, to the people we meet every day? Is it culture\, environment\, or just old friendships? The team assembled for this project is uniquely prepared to tackle these issues\, both in a philosophical/artistic and technical sense.\n \nVietnamese multimedia composer\, performer and improviser Tam Thi Pham is the project leader. She recently co-founded another network performance project\, with Japanese dancer Minori Sumiyoshiyama. Other co-authors of the “here&there” piece are German-Chilean composer\, media artist and light designer Diego Muhr\, Vietnamese choreographer and dancer Khai Ngoc Vu\, and Serbian composer and accordeonist Goran Lazarevic.”

SUMMARY:YOUNG EUROPEAN IMPROVISERS FESTIVAL
DESCRIPTION:THE ART OF IMPROVISATION – TAOI 2021\nYOUNG EUROPEAN IMPROVISERS FESTIVAL \nFreitag\, 19. November 2021 • 20:00 Uhr • day 1\nSamstag\, 20. November 2021 • 20:00 Uhr • day 2\nim Resonanzraum St. Pauli\nClick here for the ticket. \n\n\n\n\nenglish version:\nThe Art of Improvisation returns to the Resonanzraum on November 19 and 20\, 2021 with a large international line-up and the Young European Improvisers Festival. Together with our audience and 26 great young musicians* from 14 countries we want to celebrate a 2-day festival of improvisation. \nThis year’s program foregoes the usual dialogue between generations and brings together all the young musicians who have been guests of The Art of Improvisation in past years and who have made a decisive contribution to the success of our concert series for a celebration of improvisation\, friendship and solidarity. We want to send a signal that despite all past and present adversities\, creative community is a necessary condition not only of our art form\, but ultimately of all human culture. \nThe audience can expect not only a celebration of reunion and the creative recapture of the stage after the lockdowns\, but also a dazzling and exciting musical program in various lineups and between all styles\, directions and forms of play of contemporary improvisational music.

SUMMARY:SPIIC MEETS: EVAN PARKER ELECTRO-ACOUSTIC ENSEMBLE
Sound Studies and Sonic Arts\, UdK Berlin \n03:30:31 Moderation \nFrom June 25–27\, 2021\, a special edition of the festival »next_generation« will take place daily from 6–9 pm CEST. Special edition in the sense that ZKM | Hertz-Labor does justice to the current situation\, but also to the digital transformation and conducts the festival online for the first time. The »next_generation« has long been a »net_generation«\, which is not least noticeable in the current dynamics in electronic music and teaching. Together with the participating 24 university studios\, we will present a diverse program over the course of three days. Because of the pandemic\, conventions and routines are being called into question and dissolved to a great extent. What was familiar is disappearing and becoming a rarity. As a result\, music production and education also sees itself confronted with new challenges. That is why the presentations of experimental concert contributions and performances and the audiovisual works of the university studios will represent a reflection of this transformation. The range of topics presented and the questions being asked during the podium discussions by the students\, lecturers\, and university studio directors\, as well as by the experts from the ZKM | Hertz-Lab\, will provide an insight into the interplay of technology and art\, which is a part of the current creative work of these composers. These discussions will cover observations about the influence of artificial intelligence on the creative process\, uncertainties regarding the handling of aesthetic diversity\, and strategies for maintaining aesthetic continuity amid technological upheavals. With this program\, »ne(x)t_generation 8.5« offers a representative overview of the current creative work of the upcoming generation of composers in the context of technology and art and against the background of current challenges and framework conditions. \n

SUMMARY:Mental processes for semi-intellectual beings - Blurred edges festival
DESCRIPTION:We all know what is going on in our heads. Or do we? How close are we able to observe ourselves and to what cause? And which tools would we use for that? \nThe composers/performers Tam Thi Pham \, Jana De Troyer  and Goran Lazarević  each approach these concepts of introspection and reflection in their own way\, creating pieces ranging from a solo for a head massager\, to trios for Đàn Bầu\, saxophone and accordion\, accompanied by electronics and visuals. We find our inspiration in microbes and our multifaceted relationship to them\, in lullabies and EEG data\, and in the pure physical joy of micro sounds! \nLink event on facebook: https://fb.me/e/4t6yopdnJ \nThis concert is a part of Blurred edges festival\, Hamburg 2021.

SUMMARY:Lightwerk - Streaming concert
DESCRIPTION:LIGHTWERK – Streaming Concert\nStreaming concert with premieres of light experimental pieces form the students of the HfMT Multimedia Department of Hamburg.\n[Pieces recorded in Kraftwerk Billie (Hamburg) in February 2021(*)]\nYoutube Link: https://youtu.be/OBhFtZ0whW0\n \n(*)Except for “Punto de Vista”\, “Shadows are only two-dimensional” and “1 step”.\nSaturday 08.05. 2021\, 20:00\n#new #video #music #light #experimental\n…………………………………………………….\n* Itzik Gil Avizohar\nA Whole\, 4′-5′\nThere is a room with a dividing wall inside. There is a hole in the dividing wall inside a room. There are three separate spaces in one room. There are three rooms in one space.\n \n* Víctor Ernesto Gutiérrez Cuiza\nPunto de vista\, 2021 (15’)\nDuring the national scale protests of 2019 in Chile\, over 300 people were shot by the army and policemen in their eyes with rubber bullets. The National Institute for Human Rights revealed that by the 7th of December (less than two months after the protest started) “331 persons presented injuries in their eyes\, while 31 suffered from blowup or complete loss of one of their eyeballs”.\nDespite the millions of people in the streets denouncing the systemic violence they have to live with\, the answer from the government had no second readings: “We are at war” said the president\, showing the brutal reality of physical violence practiced by the state.\nhttps://www.instagram.com/_victorpiano_/\n \n* Jana De Troyer\nShadows are only two-dimensional (4’)\nDo sounds have shadows? And if so\, can one artificially reproduce them? A waterbottle\, a forest\, a DAW\, and some acousmatic graphs will make an attempt of creating them – these acoustic shadows.\n* Alicia S. Ryes\nGurg – an almost-ready-made (10’)\nImprovisation on a light & sound Installation\nGURG it’s an installation consisting of an enlightened-loud-speaking toilet*.\nThis piece is a study of the improvisational possibilities of an almost-ready-made. An experiment resulting from reflection on the recontextualisation and re-signification of everyday objects transformed into musical instruments suitable for free improvisation.\n– All sounds used are sampled bubbles and “flushings” from a real toilet clogging.\n \n* Diego Muhr\ncrop2 (8’)\nSite-specific performance for 5 walkers and light.\n \n* Takshina Bayaru\n1 step (Video art – 3’)\nThis piece is an attempt in collaboration with the artist Jonathan Lindave\, to take a step to the side and look at ordinary things from new perspectives. As a result\, we got these wonderful neon lights.\n \n* Juan Jaramillo\nSinostosis Radiocubital (13’)\nfor electric guitar quartet\, electronics and light\n \n* Tam Thi Pham\n1.5 m (12’)\nDance\, music and lights\nDancers: Angela-Mara Florant and Natalia Golubtsova\nThe piece was inspired by my experiences during the lock-down: spending all days in a tiny room\, sleeping\, working and making music in there. Always anxious\, so easy to get angry. I see myself changing inside and outside. Enveloped by loneliness\, wanting to escape…\nhttps://tamthipham.com/\n \n* Tobias Pfeil\nLied für Ghost (20’)\nComposition for automated installation\nLied für Ghost is a speculative performance-installation that examines humanity and culture from the point of view of a mechanized\, “hyperdead” archetype. Drawing heavily on death-related symbols from popular culture\, the piece reinterprets the concept of human and societal decay in the context of ecocentrism and artificial hyperintelligence.

\nSome of the festival highlights are the spectacular scenic ‘ Evening Harmony’  by Frédéric Verriéres for midi-piano\, extended techniques\, and electronics which with a team of 4 pianists experiences the beauty of a richly laden evening based upon  Debussy’s ‘Les sons et les parfums tournent dans l’air du soir’ . We are happy to present three new works inspired by  Queen Elizabeth I. including the project of   French/American puppeteer\, musician and costume designer Lucie Cunningham and her giant costume ‘stage’  of Queen Elizabeth I.  \nMore information: \n2021: Homosapiens & Queen Elizabeth 1.

SUMMARY:TAOI SPECIAL EDITION TEXT & MUSIK

SUMMARY:Hanoi city blues
DESCRIPTION:Performance Đàn Bầu\, electronics\, Haikus on December \nVenue: Univ. of Bonn\, main building\, lecture hall 2 \nThe pieces are personal as well as at the pulse of time. Haikus written in English delve into the astonishingly sensual sounds of Đàn bầu\, the Vietnamese monochord zither\, combined with electronics – and vice versa.\nWith her sensitivity for vibratos\, non-Western scales and explorative improvisations\, Tam Thi Pham embarks on a journey of musical maneuvers and interactions\, as if in a question-and-answer game with images put in words by Phuong Le Trong. The performance distinctively leads to reflections on current issues and experiences in Vietnam and other environments. \nTam Thi Pham\, based in Hamburg\, is a composer and improvisation artist hailing from Vietnam. Expressions in which composition and performance are two indivisible parts testify to her flair for creative experimenting\, especially with Vietnamese music. Phuong Le Trong is a sociologist with a focus on Southeast Asia as well as an author. His essays and poems are records from the perspective of a flâneur. \n
