The futuristic-sounding acronym SPIIC stands for “Studio for Polystylistic Improvisation and Interdisciplinary Crossover”, which was formed as part of the Innovative Hochschule/Stage_2.0 project. It’s headed by the border-crosser Vlatko Kučan, a jazz saxophonist and clarinetist. Currently the ensemble consists of some 15 performers playing a variety of instruments (violin, accordion, voice, double bass, saxophone, piano etc.) I have the pleasure of playing the “đàn bầu” in this project.
